Background & Purpose: Poor sleep quality is common among hemodialysis patients. On the other hand, hemodialysis patients are encountered with carnitine deficiency. L-carnitine is a dietary supplement that has various metabolic functions and decreases the complications during dialysis. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of oral L-carnitine supplementation on sleep quality in hemodialysis patients.
Materials & Methods: In this double blind randomized clinical trial, 59 qualified hemodialysis patients were gone under investigation in Imam Khomeini Hospital in Shirvan during 2013. Patients were divided into intervention and control groups by permutation blocking method. Patients in the intervention group received 500 mg of L-carnitine supplement twice a day, and the placebo group was similarly taking placebo for 12 weeks. Tools for data collection consist of demographic form and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index which were completed before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed with SPSS statistical software version 11.5 and using independent t-test, Mann-Whitney test, chi-square, Fisher, Wilcoxon tests, Analysis of Covariance and significance level of P0.05.
Results: Before intervention, the mean PSQI scores were 9.6±4.2 and 10.1±4.13, respectively in the drug group and the placebo group and, after the intervention, the scores were, respectively, 6.4±2/8 and 9/7±3/48 that showed significant differences in both groups, compared to baseline(P0.05). Also, The PSQI score decreased by 33% in the intervention group and by 3/9% in the control group. Based on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the lower score demonstrates a better condition of sleep qualiy.
Conclusion: This study showed that oral L-carnitine supplementation can improve sleep quality in hemodialysis patients.

Introduction: Oral health care in patients with an endotracheal tube is one of the most important aspects of nursing care and nursing tasks in intensive care units. Purposes: The purpose of this study is the comparison between the effect of chlorhexidine solution and toothbrush in the prevention of oral lesions in patients hospitalized in intensive care unit in Shaheed Beheshti Hospital of Sabzevar.
Materials and methods: This study is a clinical trial. The Research Society in this study is patients hospitalized with endotracheal tube from the arrival time in intensive care unit in 1392. In this study, 30 patients were selected with target-based approach. They were divided into two groups by permutation blocking method for oral care toothbrush and chlorhexidine. There were 15 patients in each group. Beck Oral Assessment Scale (BOAS) modified and MPS are used in order to collect information on demographics List of information from the checklist of oral health. Data are analyzed by R software, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Chi square test, and Fisher and multiple logistic regression at 95% confidence level.
Results: Patients toothbrush and chlorhexidine groups of characteristics like age, sex, and drugs were similar (p>0.05). The results show that the toothbrush and chlorhexidine are effective in preventing oral lesions, but in some cases, when the toothbrush was used, the oral health status of the patient was better (OR=1.52، p=0.0046).
Discussion and conclusion: The results indicated the use of toothbrushes and toothpaste is a significant effect in reducing oral lesions in comparison with chlorhexidine.

Background and Purpose: Nurses are the biggest service providers in the health system and are expected to enjoy a satisfactory quality of life in order to provide satisfactory health care to the clients. The present study was conducted to determine the quality of life of nurses in Sabzevar hospitals. Methods and Materials: This cross sectional deh1ive and analytical study involved 69 nurses selected through non-random sampling employed at 3 hospitals in Sabzevar Iran. Relevant data were collected through the administration of SF36 questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS using t-test ANOVA and correlation. Results: Minimum and maximum scores of physical dimension were 1050 and 2200 respectively (mean being 1720±270); in the mental aspect minimum and maximum were 475 and 1400 (mean being 1065±24). The least mean of life quality was obtained from nurses in the dialysis ward (2471±450) and the highest from nurses in ICU (290±197). Conclusion: The quality of life score in mental aspect was lower than the physical aspect; and the majority specified an average quality of life.

Background and Purpose: Life style is the style one adopts throughout life and is considered as one of the important factors in mental and physical health. It is also affected by culture, race religion, geographical, economical and social factor, as well as by beliefs. The present study was conducted to defermine the life style of people living Sabzevar, Iran so that, upon a good knowledge of their life style, an appropriate guide is suggested to policy makers to help people make modifications to their life style.
Methods and Materials: This research is a descriptive analytical study. People living in Sabzevar, Iran with age 18 to 65 years old were the study population, out of which 1537 subjects were selected through stratified random sampling. Instruments used for data collection were questionnaires, weight scale and a meter. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS using descriptive and analytical data.
Results: According to the findings, 46.9% were men and the rest (52.4%) were women. As for the life style, dominant figures included smoking 12.2%, physical activity 37.8%, sleep disorders 54.6%, abnormal BMI in men and woman 43.2% and 56.7% respectively , solid oil use 43.3% and use of vegetables and fruit 14.4%.
Conclusion: The findings of this study revealed that the life style of people living in sabzevar(Low physical activity, obesity, smoking, inappropriate diet) is a considerable health problem and requires continuous intervention programs to being modifications into personal behaviors and life style.

Muscular injections are one of the most common medical procedures and nurses encounter the experience of pain in their patients and look for ways of reducing pain. This quasi-experimental research was conducted to study the effects of Z-track and air-lock injection methods on the intensity of pain. 585 women referring to Heshmatiyyah Clinic in Sabzevar, Iran for either of three injections (Penicillin, B-complex, Diclophenac) were randomly assigned into three groups of 195 members; in each group, 65 patients received Ztrack 65 air-lock and the last 65 routine methods of injection in lateral position. Visual scale was utilized for pain assessment. Findings revealed that in Z-track group, intensity of pain was 3.1; while it was 4.1 and 4.5 in air-lock and routine injection groups; the difference was found to be significant by one -way ANOVA. Severe pain was experienced by 4.1% in Ztrack group, 7.7% in air-lock and 14.4% in the routine injection methods; Chi-squre revealed a significant relationship between pain intensity and injection method (P<0.0001). However, no significant relationship was found to exist between intensity of pain and factors such as age, occupation, education, and BMI. Therefore, it is suggested that we make use of Z-track injection for the ease of patients.
